The Ear Force DSS 5.1/7.1 channel Dolby surround sound processor transforms any stereo headset into full, immersive surround sound for playing XBOX, PS3 or PC games and watching movies with Blu-ray or DVD players.

It works with any set of stereo headphones and is the perfect complement to the Turtle Beach Ear Force series of stereo gaming headsets (X31, X11, XLC, Z1, and PX21).

The optical digital input easily connects to a game console or media player for Dolby 5.1/7.1 channel surround sound and the analog input can also be used to upgrade analog stereo audio sources to Dolby Pro Logic IIx for virtual surround sound. A bass boost control adds sub-woofer effects for enhanced realism to any audio source.

The Ear Force DSS uses a 150MIPS Digital Signal Processor (DSP) to deliver genuine Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, and Dolby Headphone surround processing technologies, the industry-standard formats for encoding multi-channel sound in XBOX 360, PS3™ and PC games and Blu-ray and DVD movies. The DSS uses the latest version of Dolby technology to create realistic game sound in 5.1/7.1 channels for improved surround sound accuracy. Dolby Headphone audio processing recreates the sound of 5.1/7.1 channel speakers in any stereo headset, so you can hear every nuance in the game audio 360 degrees all around you — without disturbing anyone else in the room. Dolby surround sound adds incredible realism to your gaming experience. With action games, like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, HALO 3, God of War 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV, you can hear exactly where your enemies are coming from and react faster and more accurately. With interactive games, like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, you can hear subtle details in the music and sound cues that are missed on speakers, drawing you deeper into the experience.

The DSS incorporates the latest Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoding system for surround sound realism from Dolby PL II encoded audio. When used with stereo sources, the Dolby Pro Logic Decoder also enhances the sound by spreading the stereo signal to provide a “wider” effect. This results in a richer, fuller sound than normal stereo — almost as if it originates from outside of the headphones.

Analog Stereo Inputs

The optical digital input accepts a S/PDIF audio stream from digital sources for Dolby Digital surround sound, while an analog stereo input allows connecting standard stereo sources such as a TV or MP3 player.

CS/PDIF-to-Analog Converter

In “Bypass” mode, the DSS can be used as to convert an optical digital audio stream into an analog signal converter, which lets you connect a digital source such as a game console or Blu-ray/DVD to analog inputs on a home theater receiver or a powered speaker system.

Variable Bass Boost

A variable control lets you adjust the amount of Bass Boost to produce deep, rich low frequency sounds—just like turning up the volume on the sub-woofer on your home theater system. This improves your gaming experience by kicking-up the sound level of explosions, gun shots and other deep-bass sound effects, making them even more dramatic.

Headphone Amplifier

A headphone amplifier with volume control boosts the sound to adequate volume levels so you’ll hear every nuance in the sound regardless of whether you’re using active or passive headphones.

Powered by USB

The DSS is powered by a single USB port on your game console, PC or laptop so there’s no need to fuss with a separate AC power adapter. A convenient USB pass-thru socket lets you connect other USB devices for power or data transfer, reducing the number of USB ports needed in your gaming setup.
